Sade Sati 2025–2032: Which Rashis Are Affected and What It Really Means

Few words make a family as nervous as “Sade Sati”. People often come to a consultation already sure that the next seven and a half years will be a disaster. By the end of the reading they are usually calmer, because Sade Sati is not a curse. It is a long, demanding lesson from Shani, and how it unfolds depends on your own chart.

This article explains what Sade Sati is, who is going through it right now, the dates of each phase, and what you can do to make these years work for you.

What is Sade Sati?

Shani (Saturn) is the slowest of the planets used in Jyotish. It takes about 29½ years to travel through all twelve rashis, spending roughly two and a half years in each one.

Sade Sati means “seven and a half”. It is the period when Saturn moves through three signs in a row:

  • the sign before your Moon sign (the 12th from the Moon),
  • your Moon sign itself,
  • the sign after your Moon sign (the 2nd from the Moon).

Three signs of about 2½ years each make roughly 7½ years. Because Saturn returns every 29½ years, most people pass through Sade Sati two or three times in a lifetime.

One point causes a lot of confusion: Sade Sati is counted from your Chandra rashi (Moon sign), not from your Sun sign and not from the rashi of your name. If you do not know your Moon sign, you can find it in a minute with the free Kundli.

The three phases

First phase (rising). Saturn is in the 12th house from your Moon. This often brings expenses, travel or distance from home, poor sleep, and the ending of things that have run their course. It is a time to clear space.

Second phase (peak). Saturn sits directly on your Moon. The mind feels the weight of responsibility; work is heavy and recognition comes slowly. This is also when people mature most and lay foundations that last for decades.

Third phase (setting). Saturn moves to the 2nd house from your Moon: family, savings and speech. The pressure eases, but money and family matters need care. Many people finish this phase stronger and more settled than they started.

Who is in Sade Sati now?

Saturn entered Meen (Pisces) on 29 March 2025. These are the current periods, calculated with Lahiri ayanamsa (some almanacs differ by a day):

Moon sign (rashi)Status in late 2026Sade Sati dates
Kumbha (Aquarius)Third phase, settingJanuary 2020 – 23 February 2028
Meen (Pisces)Second phase, peakApril 2022 – 17 April 2030
Mesh (Aries)First phase, rising29 March 2025 – 31 May 2032
Brish (Taurus)Starts next3 June 2027 – July 2034
Makar (Capricorn)Just finishedended 29 March 2025

Saturn moves back and forth around a sign boundary when it is retrograde, so the start and end of a phase can stretch over several months. For example, Saturn first enters Mesh on 3 June 2027, slips back into Meen on 20 October 2027, and settles in Mesh on 23 February 2028. That is why Kumbha’s Sade Sati truly ends only in February 2028.

Shani’s Dhaiya: the smaller test

Alongside Sade Sati, Nepali and Indian families also watch for Dhaiya (two and a half years), when Saturn passes through the 4th or the 8th house from the Moon.

  • Kantak Shani (4th from the Moon) touches home, property, mother and peace of mind.
  • Ashtam Shani (8th from the Moon) brings sudden changes, delays and hidden matters to the surface.

With Saturn in Meen, Dhanu (Sagittarius) is in Kantak Shani and Singha (Leo) is in Ashtam Shani, both until 23 February 2028.

Is Sade Sati always difficult?

No. Plenty of people get a promotion, marry, build a house or see a business finally take off during Sade Sati. What decides the result is your own chart:

  • Where Saturn sits at birth. A strong, well-placed Saturn tends to reward effort during Sade Sati.
  • Your Lagna. For Brish (Taurus) and Tula (Libra) ascendants, Saturn is a yogakaraka, the planet that brings success, so its transits are often productive.
  • Your running dasha. A good Mahadasha can soften the whole period; a difficult one can make it heavier.
  • The strength of your Moon. A strong Moon handles pressure better.

This is why two people with the same Moon sign can have completely different Sade Sati years.

What Shani asks of you

Saturn is the planet of time, discipline, duty and fairness. During its transit, it rewards slow, honest effort and punishes shortcuts. In practice:

  • Keep a steady routine and finish what you start.
  • Look after your sleep and your health, and get regular check-ups.
  • Avoid risky loans, speculation and decisions taken in anger.
  • Be fair to the people who work for you and respectful to elders.
  • Take on responsibility willingly; Saturn rewards those who carry their load.

Traditional remedies

These are the remedies most often followed in Nepal and India. They are simple and safe, and many people find they bring steadiness:

  • On Saturdays, light a lamp with sesame or mustard oil, and recite the Hanuman Chalisa or the Shani mantra Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah.
  • Give black sesame, mustard oil, blankets or food to people in need, especially on Saturdays.
  • Serve the elderly, labourers and the poor; Shani is said to be pleased by humble service.
  • Fast on Saturdays only if your health allows it.

Please do not wear a blue sapphire (Neelam) on your own. It is one of the most powerful stones in Jyotish and can harm as easily as it helps; it should only be worn after your whole chart has been studied.
